Adela and Raqi live in Detroit, Michigan, but when it came time to celebrate their wedding, there was only one place it could happen — back home in Korçë, Albania. And there was only one studio they wanted behind the camera.

We first photographed Adela and Raqi when they were still in high school at Raqi Qirinxhi school in Korçë. They started coming to our studio regularly for portraits — year after year, through all the milestones that lead up to a moment like this. When they moved to Detroit and got engaged, they called us. Some relationships just don’t need explaining.

Their celebration was a stunning white Albanian wedding that brought together family from across the Albanian diaspora — Detroit, Chicago, New York, and Albania — for a multi-day celebration rooted in tradition and filled with joy. As Albanian photographers originally from Korçë ourselves, this wedding wasn’t just a booking. It was coming home to photograph people we’ve watched grow up.

The Ceremony — Katedralja e Ringjalljes së Krishtit, Korçë

Adela and Raqi’s ceremony took place at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ (Katedralja e Ringjalljes së Krishtit) in Korçë — one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches in Albania. The cathedral’s hand-painted religious iconography, ornate wooden chandeliers, and centuries of spiritual history created a setting of extraordinary reverence and beauty.

We’ve been photographing in Albanian churches since our earliest years in the industry, and this cathedral is one we know intimately. We know where the light falls through the windows, when the most emotional moments happen during the ceremony, and how to capture the full grandeur of the space without interrupting the sacred atmosphere.

Visi Studio is one of the few wedding photography studios in the United States with direct Albanian roots. Ervis and Ilva are both originally from Korçë, Albania — the same city where this wedding took place — and we’ve been photographing Albanian weddings across the US and Europe for over 20 years.

Adela and Raqi’s story is one we’re especially proud of: a couple we first met as high school students in Korçë, who trusted us with their portraits for years, and who — even after building a life in Detroit — came back to us for the most important day of their lives. That kind of trust is something we never take for granted.
